Wonderful acting; however, the glorified love of Tom and Gerri contrasts with their friends’ and most of their family’s true sadnesses and issues. I found those folks more engaging, authentic, and human than the couple’s socially and economically comfortable lives. They are soul mates, which not everyone gets but does not ensure sympathy.

Wine and beer are drunk in excess, and the couple’s lifestyle seems ‘anaethetised’ considering their issues. Alcohol is abundantly served at the couple’s meal, including to Tom’s older brother before his wife’s burial. This movie made me feel pushed to dislike everyone except Tom, Gerri, and their son.

Gerri is a university-trained counselor, but her friend Mary and the new (approved) girlfriend of the cherished and wonderful son both seem a little insane, although differently evaluated. Gerri and Mary had been friends for nearly 20 years, and her failure to pick up her friend’s frantic cheeriness goes against the peace and love we should promote.

I would want to award 3–4 ratings, but all the supporting characters are great, and Tom, Gerri, and son appear devoted to playing their holier-than-thou roles.
