Every summer I look forward to the repeated showings of Jaws on TV. Some days they have a Jaws marathon, showing the original and all the 4 Jaws movies back to back and this is my day off, spending a lazy day in my pajamas and watching the movies al day, doing nothing else but getting involved with the Jaws characters and the final Jaws Revenge. The original Jaws, though, is my favorite. A blockbuster created by Steven Spielberg in 1975, this movie keeps you in suspense until the end. From the very beginning one gets caught up in the story of a small beach town of Amity is suddenly being preyed upon by a great white. A great white that has a mind of his own and deliberately sets out to get the residents. The music is absolutely terrific and, along with the terrifying huge shark, the two notes that adds to the suspense and tells us of the shark's presence, even when you don't see the shark itself, warns us of the haunting presence of danger. The story is based around the characters of Chief Brody, played by Roy Schneider, young marine biologist Matt Hooper, played by Richard Dreyfuss, and the rough and seasoned shark hunter Quint, played by Robert Shaw, who, in a gruesome but gripping attack, is slowly and painfully eaten by Jaws, while a horrified Brody watches. Jaws is a gripping, suspenseful movie that will not disappoint. Too violent for children, though.
