This is probably my favorite movie of all times. Just listening to the opening song, "That's Amore", sung by Dean Martin, sets the tone. Cher, who is perfect as the lead character, Loretta Casstorini, growing up in an old-fashioned Italian household in Brooklyn in the 80's, , a young widow who has given up on love and has become engaged to Johnny Cammareri, played by Danny Aiello, who then goes to see his mother in Sicily who is dying, but miraculously survives. One laugh after another, and true depiction of what does go on in Italian families of that time. Cher falls passionately in love with Johnny's brother, Ronny, who bears a grudge, as his brother distracted him and caused him to lose his hand, and the story goes on and on, funny, sad, and just wonderful. All the actors are excellent, Cher, gets a changeover and looks gorgeous when she meets Ronny at the opera. Cher's parents, Cosmo and Rose, played perfectly by Vincent Gardenia and Olympia Dukakis, and even grandpa, who lives upstairs with his dogs, as a personality of his own as he looks at the moon laughing, encouraging his dogs to howl and shouting "La luna...la bella luna". Each and every one of the characters are perfectly picked and make the movie the amazing, delightful movie that it is. Never gets old, and I have seen it over a dozen times.
