This is my favorite Dustin Hoffman movie.  There is a reason he won an award for his role in this.  He plays an autistic person to an incredible degree, while at the same able to invoke humor into a lot of his scenes.  Tom Cruise also does a very good job.  After learning of his father's death, he tries to find out who will be getting the inheritance he thought he deserved.  He is able to track it down and it leads to finding out he had an autistic brother, played by Dustin Hoffman, that he didn't know he had.

Starting off their relationship based on greed, and a sort of kidnapping from his brothers group home, they spend time together on a road trip where he learns to love him and not care about the money he initially was after.  Many comedic scenes, especially in Las Vegas, are brilliantly had to offset the drama and emotion of the situation.

The movie Cliff Hanger spoofs one scene from Las Vegas, where they come down an escalator together.  I will not give away the ending, but it is very emotional.  One of the best movies of the 1980's hands down.  Acting, Comedy, and Drama.  This movie has it all.  I highly recommend it.
