Review Detail

I am a great fan of the first Rocky, but have never been able to tolerate the many sequels. However, Rocky  Balboa, which I came upon while channel surfing, is a really enjoyable movie and harkens back to the original in its simplicity and its heart. Rocky is older now and grieving. He is filled with thoughts of the past and takes you with him through flashbacks, which are scenes from the original movie. Being old enough to have watched the original Rocky in real time, it’s not difficult to empathize with the reality of aging and of loss.. And the memory scenes from Rocky are poignant and  affecting. I loved the character of the adult Marie, and the actress’ performance was wonderful and understated. The movie, while somewhat predictable, is touching and very satisfying.
