First, let me say that I hate stupid movies.....those which show ridiculous events, slapstick comedy, and even more ridiculous dialogue. I never find them funny and avoid seeing them. Now let me say that I was hysterical throughout this movie. Yes, this movie was what I would call "stupid", with ridiculous events and dialogue, but I loved it and would recommend it to all. It is a parody of disaster films, delivered straight-faced by Leslie Nielson, and one line after another, keeps the viewer laughing throughout. Airplane stars Julie Hagerty, as the stewardess and Robert Hays, as a former Air Force pilot whose traumatic war experiences have made him terrified of flying. This comedy takes shots at many serious disaster movies of the 70's and if you were a fan of these disaster films you will enjoy this aspect of the movie. The story is about the passengers and crew of a jet who are incapacitated due to food poisoning, and a pilot with a drinking problem who has to work with an ex-girlfriend stewardess to bring the plane down safely. If someone would summarize the movie and repeat some of the jokes, one would think that this doesn't sound funny at all, but when delivered, straight faced, are really hysterical. Great cast and great lines make this one of the best movies of the kind. Some of the dialogue and story lines that were appropriate in the 1970's and 80's are not politically correct today, which should be noted. One can watch this movie over and over again and it will keep you in stitches each and every time. A true classic!
So funny.

This movie is a classic. If you have never seen it before you have to. If you have ever felt tense on an airplane and going to the airport, this movie will make you laugh nonstop. The jokes are sometimes ridiculous but they never end. The movie will fly by (pun intended) because you will be laughing throughout it until you hurt. Some of the jokes would never be able to put into today's movies and it is a sign of the times. Leslie Nielson from the Naked Gun franchise is one of the stars of the film. His straight face as he says the funniest lines without breaking, really makes the movie. Do yourself a favor and rent this tonight for a feel-good comedy that will leave you in stitches.
