Barbie is a fascinating movie that takes place in Barbie Land, a land which is Perilous ( at times) but still Pink, Perfect and Pretty. This movie is more for adults than for kids, I feel. Many of the dialogue went over my granddaughters head but I found very funny. Although I have a room set up for mChary granddaughters with Barbie the dominant factor and their cars, trailers, ambulances, planes, friends, relatives and over 100 large and smaller Barbie figures I am not, myself, a Barbie fan. I took my grands to see the movie, which they couldn't wait to see, but I think that they were a little disappointed as they did not get all the underlying remarks, jokes, satire etc. at the age of 8, I, on the other hand, was fascinated as to how the sets were created, how they " animated" Barbie Land and how the characters were actually made to look like dolls. Margo Robbie was excellent in the role as Barbie, as were the other cast members, including Ryan Gosling, as Ken, America Ferrara, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Will Ferrell and Rhea Perlman.
Although this was far from my favorite, it was fascinating to watch how the story progressed and what an excellent job was done. I am glad I saw the movie but would not see it a second time.

I must admit, I was a bit skeptical, considering the hype and the fact that I have not played with a Barbie for many decades. But I found this to be an uplifting, appealing and heartfelt movie. The actors were totally committed to their characters. The movie was pink and beautiful to watch, and included so many visual details that I found myself viewing it a second time. The message was a bit heavy handed, but relevant and important. Margot Robbie was wonderful, as was the entire cast. She managed to portray an innocence and goodness and silliness but then moments of real need and heartache. Her scene with Rhea Perlman was quiet and lovely. The movie was a joyous ride.
